Budapest, 29 September 2025 – The Budapest Regional Centre for Competition, jointly operated by the Hungarian Competition Authority (GVH) and the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), is holding a two-day professional training course for experts from the Hungarian Competition Authority. The aim of this annual event is to equip the GVH staff with the latest knowledge and experience so that they can continue their fight for the Hungarian people and fair market competition as effectively as possible. Experts from the OECD, the European Commission, and the European Court of Justice, among others, provide assistance in discussing specific issues. In his opening remarks, Csaba Balázs Rigó, President of the GVH, emphasized: "Strong and effective enforcement of competition law is essential for the functioning of a fair market economy."
The Regional Centre for Competition (RCC), jointly operated by the GVH and the OECD, is holding a two-day seminar for experts from the Hungarian Competition Authority on September 29-30, 2025. The aim of the training is to provide the GVH staff with insight into the latest international experiences in the effective enforcement of competition policy.
The training, which is attended by approximately 85 experts from the GVH, covers topics such as the current questions surrounding the application of commitments, the challenges of applying the Digital Markets Act (DMA), and the experiences of the European Court of Justice regarding its latest cartel cases. Participants will also gain insight into the lessons learned from the Towercast and Illumina/Grail cases. To deepen their understanding of these topics, the training will draw on the knowledge of experts from the OECD, the European Commission, the European Court of Justice, the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), and a number of European partner authorities.
The event was opened by Csaba Balázs Rigó, President of the GVH. He emphasized: "Technological development, digitalization, and the dynamically changing landscape of the global economy present us with challenges that require the continuous evolution of law enforcement. We must be open to new approaches and solutions in order to stay up to date." “This is also a responsibility that stems from our duty of protecting the Hungarian people." emphasized Csaba Balázs Rigó.
The Regional Centre for Competition Budapest, established by the GVH and the OECD in 2005, aims to build on the expertise of the two institutions to provide support in the field of competition law and policy to competition authorities in Eastern and South-Eastern Europe and Central Asia by organising training courses and other professional programmes in competition law. There are only three similar training centres in the world: in Hungary, Peru and the Republic of Korea. The RCC celebrates its 20th anniversary in 2025. Since 2005, it has organised more than 160 events, with nearly 6,000 participants and more than 1,000 speakers sharing their expertise and knowledge.
