The Hungarian Competition Authority is building its international relations in all directions in accordance with Hungarian interests
Budapest, 30 May 2025 – A delegation from the Market Surveillance Authority of the inner Chinese province of Henan was hosted by the Hungarian Competition Authority (GVH) in Budapest. The meeting covered topics such as the characteristics of market competition, the potential opportunities of the trade and investment environment, and the latest developments in consumer protection. The representatives of the Hungarian Competition Authority and the Chinese provincial authority agreed to further expand the mutual knowledge sharing in the future.
Henan (Honan) Province, with nearly 100 million inhabitants, is traditionally considered the cradle of Chinese civilisation and state. It is China's third most populous province and an important economic, commercial, and industrial centre. A delegation from the Henan Market Surveillance Authority visited the GVH headquarters on the 30th of May 2025.
The aim of the meeting is to share knowledge between the authorities and to explore potential cooperation opportunities to facilitate trade and investment partnerships between Henan Province and Hungary. During the half-day visit, the Chinese guests received an overview of the activities of the GVH, the main features of Hungarian competition law and European competition rules, and the international relations and role of the GVH.
The GVH is committed to developing international relations and considers it important to strengthen cooperation on competition law and policy with authorities in other countries through similar professional meetings. In recent years, the GVH has provided a platform for international knowledge-sharing and international networking on several occasions.
In October 2024, the 50th European Competition Day was staged in Budapest, and in April 2025, the GVH organised a Presidential-level meeting of the competition authorities of the Organisation of Turkic States (OTS) in Budapest. A few days earlier, the GVH and the International Competition Network (ICN) jointly hosted a meeting of chief economists from the world's competition authorities in Budapest at the GVH headquarters. The GVH also played an active role and received multiple awards at the annual meeting of the world's competition authorities in early May 2025.
