Budapest, 14 October 2025 – "The Budapest Regional Centre for Competition, jointly operated by the Hungarian Competition Authority (GVH) and the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), has had another successful year. The RCC has become a hub for competition policy knowledge sharing in Eastern Europe and Western Asia over the past two decades," said Csaba Balázs Rigó at the OECD Hungarian National Council meeting in Budapest. The President of the GVH pointed out that the RCC, founded in 2005 and now celebrating its 20th anniversary, has organized 162 events over the past two decades, at which nearly 6,000 participants and more than 1,000 speakers have shared their professional experiences and expanded their knowledge.

At the meeting of the OECD Hungarian National Council on the 14th of October 2025, Csaba Balázs Rigó recalled that the aim of the Budapest Regional Centre for Competition, established by the GVH and the OECD in 2005, is to build on the expertise of the two institutions to provide support in the field of competition law and policy to competition authorities in Eastern and South-Eastern Europe and Central Asia by organising training courses and other professional programmes in competition law. There are only three similar training centres in the world: in Hungary, Peru and the Republic of Korea.

The centre in Hungary currently has 17 beneficiaries: Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Kosovo, North Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro, Romania, Serbia, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan. "Thanks to the RCC, Hungary acts as a bridge between the regions of Eastern and Southeastern Europe and Central Asia. Our country is a driving force in competition law training and knowledge sharing," emphasized Csaba Balázs Rigó.

Summing up the year 2025, Csaba Balázs Rigó recalled that the training centre of the GVH and the OECD celebrated its 20th anniversary this year, for which occasion the two organizations held a joint conference in February. In addition, the RCC organized a total of seven training seminars in 2025, which provided an excellent opportunity to further strengthen international professional relations.

"Over the past two decades, we have organized 162 events and hosted nearly 6,000 experts in Hungary. These results reflect our joint work and knowledge, as well as our shared responsibility for a more competitive future," said Csaba Balázs Rigó. "Knowledge transfer to the countries listed is important as it contributes to the creation of a fair competitive environment, which means predictability for companies investing and exporting from Hungary. The training centre operates economically, with a quarter of its budget coming from external sources," explained the president of the Hungarian Competition Authority at the meeting of the OECD Hungarian National Council on the 14th of October 2025.

Csaba Balázs Rigó thanked László Havas, the recently retired ambassador of Hungary's Permanent Representation to the OECD and UNESCO, for his collaboration, and assured Antal Nikoletti, the new ambassador-designate to the OECD, of the close professional cooperation of the GVH and the RCC. More information on the activities of the Budapest Regional Centre for Competition is available on the websites of the Hungarian Competition Authority and the RCC.
