Parliament accepted the annual reports of the GVH

In its plenary session held on 21 May 2007, Parliament accepted the annual reports 2005 and 2006 of the Hungarian Competition Authority

The parliamentary debate of the annual reports started with the debates held within the committees of Parliament (Economy and Informatics, Budgetary and Agricultural Committees and Committee of Consumer Protection assembled on a case-by-case basis) in the week following the 7th of May. All committees supported the joint report and acknowledged the activity of the Hungarian Competition Authority (Gazdasági Versenyhivatal, GVH). Committee members encouraged the GVH to use further severity and to be similarly active in supervising competition in the future.

The summary of the work and experiences of the last two years were discussed in the plenary session of 16 May. The evaluation of the authority's last two years' work started with a 30-minute exposé of Zoltán Nagy, the President of the GVH. During the debate, both the government and the parliamentary parties supported the acceptance of the report. No debate going into details took place. The concluding vote was held on 21 May. In this vote, Parliament accepted both reports about the activity of the GVH and the experiences it made during the application of the Competition Act.
