Csaba Balázs Rigó and his colleagues represented the Hungarian Competition Authority and the Hungarian competition policy tendencies at the OECD Competition Week in Paris
Budapest, December 4, 2025 – Csaba Balázs Rigó, President of the Hungarian Competition Authority (GVH), was elected to the 17-member Bureau of the Competition Committee of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) during the OECD Competition Week in Paris. At this biannual meeting, the President of the GVH presented the 2025 report of the OECD-GVH Regional Centre for Competition in Budapest (RCC), as well as the program plan for the following year. In his speech, Csaba Balázs Rigó emphasized the GVH’s efforts to further strengthen its international professional network by building bridges between Eastern and Western partners and representing Hungarian national interests.
The traditional winter session of the Competition Committee of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) was held in Paris between December 1 and 5 2025.
At this prestigious international event, Csaba Balázs Rigó, President of the Hungarian Competition Authority, was elected to the 17-member Bureau of the OECD’s Competition Committee. "This recognition is not for me personally, but for Hungary, for Hungarian competition policy, our competition law experts, and the dedicated staff of the GVH! We are committed to promoting fair competition and protecting the interests of the Hungarian people."
The GVH Presidents election to the Bureau of the OECD Competition Committee marks a significant recognition for Hungary and its competition policy. His membership in the Steering Group of the International Competition Network (ICN), renewed this spring, further underscores Hungary’s active role in international competition governance.
During the OECD Competition Week in Paris, Csaba Balázs Rigó also presented the 2025 report of the OECD-GVH Regional Centre for Competition in Budapest (RCC). In 2025 alone, the RCC organised five seminars, attended by over 300 experts. The President of the GVH also presented the program plan for the following year. The Competition Committee approved the report as well as the program plan.
Csaba Balázs Rigó emphasized: "The Hungarian Competition Authority considers broad and constructive international professional dialogue to be of paramount importance. This is particularly relevant in relation to pressing issues, such as artificial intelligence and digital markets. Our joint initiative plays a key role in strengthening professional dialogue in the Eastern European and Central Asian regions." He added: "The RCC thus provides an important forum for our conscious strategy of further developing our international network of relationships in order to become key players in professional dialogue and knowledge sharing."
The RCC was established on 16 February 2005, with the primary goal of building on the professional background of the two institutions to provide support to the competition authorities of Eastern, Southeastern, and Central European countries in the field of competition law and policy by organising competition law trainings and other professional programs. There are three such training centres in the world, one in Budapest, one in Peru, and one in the Republic of Korea. Moreover, the fourth centre will begin operating in Saudi Arabia from next year.
The RCC celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2025. Since its founding, the RCC has hosted 164 events, engaging approximately 6,600 professionals in knowledge exchange and capacity-building. The OECD and the GVH celebrated the anniversary with a joint professional conference in February. During the OECD Competition Week in Paris, GVH experts actively contributed to multiple sessions at the so-called good practice roundtables designed to promote the exchange of experiences and knowledge. Economist Márton Kónya shared experiences from accelerated sector inquiries, while case handler Péter Decsák highlighted the important role of cooperative remedies in national practice. Economist Bence Orosz presented on the interplay of artificial intelligence and competition dynamics in downstream markets.
